Tony Doherty, Chair of the Bloody Sunday Trust whose father was murdered on Bloody Sunday, has criticised DUP leader Gavin Robinson MP for his criticism of the Bloody Sunday families’ actions “in the pursuit of others” i.e. those who shot their loved ones to death on our streets, exhorting us to give up our quest for justice.
Tony Doherty continued:
Given Mr Robinson’s words and actions on social media after Soldier F was acquitted in October 2025, when he posted the banner of the Parachute Regiment, were and remain deeply hurtful to the families. Indeed, we called on him to take down and to apologise for his gross insensitivity, effectively rubbing our noses in it, he has refused to do so and has basically ignored us.
Because of his stance, I shortly afterwards reported his actions to the Professional Conduct Committee, as Mr Robinson is still a barrister and a member of the Bar of Northern Ireland. My complaint is currently being processed.
Gavin Robinson has no place advising us to give anything up, least of all our legitimate quest for justice. His focus, in responding to today’s PPS decision not to prosecute soldiers for perjury, should have been on addressing the hurt that he himself has caused, take down his offensive post and apologise. If he is not prepared to do that, he should simply keep out of it.
