The Moon Tell Me Truth exhibition, curated by the Hands Up Project, features 60 illustrated poems created by children from Gaza. Most are now displaced, their homes and schools destroyed, and at least two were killed in Israeli airstrikes. This deeply moving exhibition gives local people the chance to read these words, written just before their world was torn apart.
Museum of Free Derry curator Adrian Kerr said:
“We are very proud to host this deeply moving exhibition and to give local people the chance to read these words from children in Palestine, written just before their world was brutally torn apart by the Israeli onslaught on their homes, but in a year – 2023 – that was already by then the most dangerous on record for Palestinian children until the current genocide.
We are all aware of the specific impact of the ongoing genocide on children in Palestine, with tens of thousands already dead, and it is very fitting that we host this exhibition as a follow up to Layan’s Steps.”
The exhibition is curated by the Hands Up Project, an organisation “committed to social justice, global citizenship, and freedom of expression, and upholds the belief that language learning is enhanced through creativity, performance and collaborative interaction.” The project works with children and teachers in Palestine and other areas to support educational and creative projects.
