The Bloody Sunday Trust has sent its congratulations to the Palestinian Youth Movement on the success of its ‘Mask off Maersk’ campaign. Following just one year of campaigning the group, which was hosted by the Trust over the Bloody Sunday weekend, has forced the Danish shipping giant to divest from companies in illegal Israeli settlements.
Tony Doherty, Chair of the Trust said,
Maersk’s decision proves that Direct Action works, that International Law can be enforced, if not by Governments then by Pressure Groups, and that economic pressure can be brought to bear on the Occupation.
This is proof, if proof were still needed, that the genocide could have been stopped if Governments had not chosen to find reasons for inaction and then sought to criminalise and silence people of conscience who do act.
