The Bloody Sunday Trust is proud to announce that it has raised and donated a total £44,991.69 to Palestinian causes over the past three years.
Among the beneficiaries were the Palestinian National Initiative, the Palestinian Medical Relief Society and the Amjaad Charity, a small organisation in Gaza that provides help to families in Gaza.
The Bloody Sunday Trust raised the money through a number of initiatives, including the sale of specially designed badges, Christmas cards and Palestine Cola – all of which are still available from the Museum of Free Derry – and from public donations, collections and admission fees to the museum on Nakba Day and other days.
Tony Doherty, chair of the Trust, said:
The situation in Palestine remains dire, with no sign of peace and justice for the Palestinian people.
The world is looking away again since Israel declared a so-called ceasefire last October, while continuing to murder Palestinian men, women and children with impunity, in Gaza and in the West Bank. This is not a ceasefire. It is a cover for continued genocide.
The world must look back at Palestine and put a stop to this.
Israel also continues to block vital aid getting to those in desperate need of it. We know that tens of thousands of children and adults in Gaza are suffering from malnutrition. This suffering must stop. It must be stopped.
Palestine is an international issue that we all must be aware of. Those who are leading the assault on Palestine – not only Israel, but their supporters and tame governments as well – are also those who are leading the descent into fascism we are witnessing across the world. They must be opposed for both.
We know our donation is only a small amount in terms of what our brothers and sisters in Palestine need, but it is an act of solidarity from the people of Derry to the people of Palestine
and we hope it reminds them that most of the citizens of the world are still on their side. Derry will always be on their side.
Our fundraising efforts will continue, and we hope to raise even more over the coming year. We will stand with Palestine for as long as we need to.
