The Bloody Sunday Trust’s vision is to promote human rights, conflict transformation and mutual understanding, and over the years we have organised and supported many memorable events to highlight these issues.
Through annual lectures, exhibitions, campaigns, debates and lively discussions, the Trust works to inform, educate and inspire others locally, nationally and internationally.

The Derry Model
The Bloody Sunday Trust launched its second signature project, the Conflict Transformation and Peace Building Project, known as The Derry Model, in April 2018.
The Derry Model explores the processes, learnings, and outcomes developed in this city and shares these experiences with other areas, campaigns, and families. Participants meet with key figures to explore the lessons of Derry’s history and are supported to apply these learnings in their own situations.

Derry Peace & Conflict International (DPCI)
It had always been the intention to expand the Derry Model project onto the international stage. This led to the development of Derry Peace & Conflict International (DPCI).
Conflict transformation in Derry was itself shaped by civil rights movements elsewhere in the late 1960s. Today, Derry is internationally recognised as a place that challenges injustice, promotes equality, and delivers meaningful outcomes.
The aim of DPCI is to:
- Explore ideas for international campaigns, guided by the principle of “one world, one struggle.”
- Showcase Derry as a city that stands up against injustice and achieves results.
- Build strong bonds of international solidarity.
- Strengthen support networks.
The inaugural DPCI took place in June 2023, welcoming a group of activists from the Western Balkans.
In September 2024, the second DPCI brought a Palestinian-led delegation of activists and organisers based in the US.
Shared History Outreach Projects
The Shared History Project was initially developed as a partnership between the Museum of Free Derry, The Siege Museum, and Urban Villages. It encouraged participants to explore the history of Derry in a welcoming and open environment.
The project includes visits to both the Museum of Free Derry and The Siege Museum, which together cover two of the most important periods in the city’s history:
- The Siege of Derry in 1689
- The Civil Rights and early conflict era of the late 1960s and early 1970s
Both periods are of huge significance locally, nationally, and internationally.

LGBTQ+ Classroom Resources
In partnership with the Bloody Sunday Trust / Museum of Free Derry, OUTing the Past International Festival of LGBT History, and Schools Out, we have developed a suite of three Irish LGBT+ history lessons. These resources use inclusive teaching methods and are directly relevant to students’ lives.
The lessons were designed to complement the Queering the North exhibition but can also be delivered as stand-alone sessions.
They have been piloted at six secondary schools within the city, during the first academic term of 2022/23 and were presented at an Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) event during Belfast Pride 2023, with overall positive and encouraging feedback from both.

North West Anti-Racism Charter
The North West Anti-Racism Charter was developed through a series of meetings and community consultation workshops convened by the Bloody Sunday Trust, the North West Migrants Forum, and the Irish Network Against Racism, with the final version authored by Dave Duggan.
The Charter is a statement of intent, providing a way for businesses, organisations, community groups, schools, and individuals to push back against the rise of racist messaging and actions in the region. It pledges supporters to:
…oppose all harm by words and actions on the basis of difference of race and colour…live together, love together, struggle together, thrive together…hold ourselves and others to account for racist words and actions…commit to policies and practices that oppose division by race and colour…promote these attitudes throughout our region in the north west of Ireland…say no to racism.

Information Pack on Palestine
The Bloody Sunday Trust has compiled an Information Pack on Palestine to help students, teachers, and others understand the background to what is happening in Gaza and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The pack presents:
- A chronology of key events, from the Nakba of 1948 to the ongoing Gaza genocide
- Essential facts to support solidarity and awareness work
The Trust has also acquired an abridged version of the Time Stands Still exhibition by Valencian photojournalist Germán Caballero and historian Jorge Ramos. Together, the pack and exhibition document the reality of life under Israeli occupation and apartheid, combining historical overview, social history, and personal testimony.
