The Bloody Sunday Trust is managed by a board of 14 voluntary directors. The directors are comprised of a cross section of political and civil society within the city. Three directors are close relatives of those killed on Bloody Sunday. Another director lost a member of their immediate family just a few months before Bloody Sunday, shot dead by the British army. Other directors include a Sinn Féin MLA, a Sinn Féin councillor and a local SDLP councillor.
Current Directors
Tony Doherty (Chair)
Tony is the Chair of the Bloody Sunday Trust and has been a member since its inception in 1997. His father, Patrick, was murdered on Bloody Sunday. A former republican prisoner, Tony is now the Regional Coordinator of the Healthy Living Centre Alliance, a network of community-led health projects across the north of Ireland.
Tony has played a key role in the development of the Spring Social Prescribing project and co-chairs the All-Ireland Social Prescribing Network. He previously chaired the Northwest Integrated Care Partnership and served on the National Lottery NI Board for seven years.
Mary Louise Thompson (Vice Chair)
Mary’s [Minty’s] mother Kathleen was murdered by British soldiers in 1971 in Derry’s Creggan. She currently works in the Greater Shantallow Area Partnership.
Susan Harkin (Treasurer)
Robin Percival
The inaugural chair of the Trust, Robin worked for 30 years at the local further education college. He helped establish the Pat Finucane Centre in Derry and was active in the trade union movement
Colm Barton
Colm is the grandson of Seán Keenan, who was chairman of the Derry Citizens Defence Committee during the Free Derry period.
Gerry Duddy
Gerry is a brother of Jackie Duddy who was murdered on Bloody Sunday. One of the mainstays of the Bloody Sunday Justice Campaign, he was a plasterer by trade.
Aisling Hutton
Aisling is Health Programmes Manager at Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum and a Sinn Fein Councillor for the Moor DEA of Derry City and Strabane District Council.
John McKinney
John was involved in the Bloody Sunday Justice Campaign. His brother William was murdered on Bloody Sunday. John is now a Tour guide in Derry’s Bogside.
Pádraig Delargy
Pádraig is a Sinn Féin MLA for Derry. Born and raised in Derry’s Bogside, Pádraig is a former primary school teacher in the area and a lifelong political activist. He has a degree in history, specialising in the Civil Rights movement.
Deirdre McDaid
Deirdre has been involved in community and political activism for many years and is the Manager of Surestart Edenballymore, a Department of Education initiative to support families with young children living in the Bogside, Brandywell, Creggan & Fountain communities.
Paul Laughlin
Paul is a former Secretary of Derry Trades Union Council and a former Governor of the North West Regional College. He also Chaired the Board of the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) during the City of Culture Year in 2013. File é Paul chomh maith.
Patrick Armstrong
Sean Mooney
Sean practiced as a solicitor in Derry prior to becoming an SDLP Councillor for Derry and Strabane District Council in 2020.
Former Directors
Former directors included the late Raymond McClean, the first Mayor of Derry since the old Unionist dominated corporation was abolished in 1969. Other former directors are Jane Winter of British-Irish Rights Watch; community entrepreneur Conal McFeely, author and campaigner, Don Mullan; Bloody Sunday Inquiry solicitors Patricia Coyle, Paddy MacDermott and Peter Madden, and journalist and political activist, Eamonn McCann.
Since its inception, five individuals have chaired the Bloody Sunday Trust. The inaugural chair of the Trust was human rights activist Robin Percival, who also helped establish the Pat Finucane Centre, then journalist and activist, Eamonn McCann, community entrepreneur Conal McFeely and author Julieann Campbell, niece of Bloody Sunday victim Jackie Duddy. Robin Percival returned as chair of the organisation, and was then replaced by Tony Doherty, whose father Patrick was murdered on Bloody Sunday.
